Frequently asked questions

Which cameras and lenses does ShutterCue support?

ShutterCue v1 is tuned for Nikon Z bodies (starting with the Z5 and Z6III) and a growing catalog of Z-mount and FTZ-adapted lenses. It understands variable-aperture zooms, the crop factor on DX bodies, in-body stabilization, and how autofocus features differ across bodies. More gear is added regularly.

Do I need an internet connection or an account?

No. ShutterCue is offline-first and account-free. Choosing gear, getting a recommendation, and saving profiles all work with no signal. The app never phones home.

Are the settings a replacement for a light meter?

No — they are expert starting points. ShutterCue gets you in the ballpark fast using real exposure math, but you should still check your histogram. The same gear, scenario, and light always produce the same answer.

How does ShutterCue calculate a recommendation?

It blends photographer-authored knowledge (the right AF-area mode, subject detection, and curated tips per scenario) with computed exposure math — the APEX exposure triangle, the reciprocal hand-shake rule relaxed by your stabilization, and the 500-rule for stars.

Is my data private?

Yes. ShutterCue collects no personal data, contains no analytics or trackers, and stores your gear and profiles only on your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How much does it cost?

ShutterCue is free, with no in-app purchases today. If paid features are added later, billing would go through the App Store or Google Play and this page would be updated.

Still need a hand?
